Breno Bringel is Professor of Sociology at the Institute of Social and Political Studies of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (IESP-UERJ) since 2011, with a permanent position since 2014. In 2022 he was awarded the ‘Talento Investigador’ excellence programme of the Community of Madrid, in the framework of which he is currently developing a research project on social movements and the geopolitics of ecosocial transitions at the Complutense University of Madrid and coordinates the Observatorio de Geopolítica y Transiciones Ecosociales. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the Complutense University of Madrid, with a European Doctorate from the University of Cambridge. He has been a visiting scholar and professor at several universities in Latin America (Universidad de la República - Uruguay, Universidad Nacional de Cuyo - Argentina, Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Universidad de Santiago de Chile, Universidad de Chile and FLACSO) and Europe (ICS - Universidade de Lisboa, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universitat Basel, University of Cambridge, MSH and École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales de Paris). He was also directeur d'études associé at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme (2015) in Paris and François Chevalier Fellow at the Madrid Institute for Advanced Study (2020).
