Mańko , Rafał

I received my master's degree in law from the University of Warsaw in 2003, followed by a PhD in law on the topic of legal survivals in Polish private law after 1989, supervised by Prof. Martijn Hesselink at the University of Amsterdam (2014). After my PhD, I worked on the topic adjudication and, more specifically, the limits of judicial power in a sociological perspective taking into account especially ideological and political limitations. This research, in the form of a monograph on the theory of adjudication published in Polish (Łódź University Press, 2018), was the basis of granting me, in 2019, of the venia legendi (habilitation) at the University of Wrocław, Poland. I am currently a policy analyst at the European Parliamentary Research Service in Brussels (since 2012) where I specialise in the rule of law, an associated researcher at the Centre for Legal Education and Social Theory, University of Wrocław (since 2016), as well as a research affiliate at the Central European University Democracy Institute (since 2023). In the past, I was an external fellow at the Amsterdam Centre for Transformative Private Law, University of Amsterdam (2012-2021).

I am the author of 2 monographs, editor of 3 edited volumes (including, most recently "Legal Scholarship and the Political", CH Beck 2020) and author of over 100 scientific articles and chapters, including most recently Mańko, R. Judicial Decision-Making, Ideology and the Political: Towards an Agonistic Theory of Adjudication. Law Critique 33, 175–194 (2022).
